Globe extends Free Facebook until April 24

Posted By: SarahG - 5:53 PM
On the back of strong customer take-up, Globe Telecom is extending its Free Facebook offer available to over 38 million subscribers until April 24, 2014, allowing access to the top social networking site with no data charges.

“Due to the overwhelming response from our subscribers, we are happy to extend Globe Free Facebook until April 24, just in time for the summer season, to allow more users to enjoy an innovative, seamless, and worry-free Free Facebook experience. As the country’s leading digital brand and preferred partner of technology leaders around the world, we hope to get more Filipinos online on their mobile devices and be part of a wonderful, connected world,” shared Jenny Granada-Echevarria, Vice President for Mobile Data Services at Globe Telecom.

The said promo was recently showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain by Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his keynote. Zuckerberg cited the partnership with Globe in connecting more Filipinos to the Internet, as he shared his vision of a connected world through his pioneering project Internet.org launched last year. The collaboration between Globe and Facebook paved the way for all Globe prepaid, postpaid, and TM customers to enjoy free access to the social networking site alongside customer experience innovations that address the fear of mobile browsing.

Among these customer experience innovations include accessibility on feature phones and smartphones* across all Facebook mobile platforms whether via the Facebook app or Facebook’s mobile site m.facebook.com.

Customers are also guaranteed of no billshock or nakaw load” as they will be notified if they will incur data charges once a link that leads out of Facebook is clicked.

For a seamless experience, subscribers can also enjoy a one-click registration to the data plan of choice to continue browsing sites or links outside Facebook without having to leave the site. In the spirit of customization, recommended data plans consider a subscriber’s available prepaid balance and/or megabytes (MB) balance of existing data plan.

Finally, customers with not enough prepaid load can “loan” a 10MB data plan for only P10 which will be deducted on their succeeding top-up so they can fully explore content outside Facebook.

Subscribers can dial *143# and select FREE FB or text FREEFB to 8888 to get more. Subscribers may also go to m.facebook.com/free on the phone's web browser or open the Facebook mobile app while on the Globe network to access Free Facebook.

*Except BlackBerry.  Free Facebook will soon be available to Nokia Xpress and Opera Mini users

Globe Telecom holds football clinic and tournament for underprivileged kids in Iloilo

Posted By: SarahG - 6:03 PM
Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom, through its prepaid segment, brought together some 2,500 kids and young adults from various football communities in Iloilo during the Globe Football Para sa Bayan tournament and clinic over the weekend.

The two-day football festival held at Santa Barbara Football Field was led by Globe sports ambassador and national football player Chieffy Caligdong.

Globe Football Para Sa Bayan is a grassroots program for the youth from underprivileged communities and serves as an inclusive platform for socially advantaged and less advantaged teams to interact and work together. It also gathers key movers in the football scene such as the Green Archers United where Caligdong plays as a left winger.

“Our focus participants for Globe Football sa Bayan are underprivileged kids in public schools.  We want to teach kids the basics of football, hone talent from the provinces like Iloilo for possible scholarships in big colleges and universities, and scout potential players for the national team.  Football doesn’t have any special physical requirements except for being physically fit, fast, and intelligent so it is best suited for Filipinos,” said Caligdong.

Issa Cabreira, Vice President for Globe Prepaid Business said:  “Globe Prepaid is a brand for the youth, so supporting this worthwhile endeavor fits our aspirations perfectly. We are happy to be involved in youth development through sports and education, and help bridge the gap among the different socio-economic classes. In a sports context, kids do not feel the difference in social standings and we want to encourage more opportunities for this.  Hopefully, in the long term, they can see the connection between football and their potential to be great.  We want to create wonderful opportunities for these kids that can definitely impact their future.”

Over 30 clubs participated in the Iloilo football clinic and tournament composed of kids and young adults age 6-16.  The clubs were a mix of public and private teams.

Compared to other football tournaments where organizers charge anywhere from P3,000-P5,000 per team, the community football teams which participated in the festival were supported by Globe via free inclusion into the tournament to give them access to high-level competition and opportunities to network and to get scouted by private schools and teams for possible scholarships.

Earlier, Caligdong also conducted a football clinic for 40 students of Hacienda Conchita Elementary School in San Dionisio, Iloilo as part of the Classroom on the Go project of Globe Telecom.

Caligdong together with several Globe volunteers, likewise, distributed learning kits containing notebooks, pad paper, pencils, and crayons to 668 students from kindergarten to Grade 6 to encourage them to stay in school.

Hacienda Conchita was recommended by the Department of Education to be the recipient of the school supplies as many classrooms were totally damaged and students lost a lot of their school supplies. Globe Prepaid is also providing a tent to serve as a temporary learning space while some of the classrooms are being rebuilt.

Silicon Valley entrepreneur works
with Cebu team on startup project

Posted By: SarahG - 5:47 PM
From left to right: Tina Amper, organizer Geeks On A Beach (GOAB), Bowei Gai, founder World Startup Report and World Startup Wiki.

Silicon Valley entrepreneur Bowei Gai has emerged with a new project, the World Startup Wiki, after being holed up with his team since December 2013 in Cebu, Philippines. The World Startup Wiki that seeks to build startup databases on all countries first focuses on the Philippines and has gone live in Moscow during the opening of the Global Entrepreneur Congress last March 17, 2014.
Entrepreneurs can look up list of incubators, notable startups, available talent to costs or everything one needs to know before building a startup in the Philippines. Aside from data on the country and its startups, Gai’s project allows entrepreneurs to look up potential investors and vice versa.
The 28-year-old came from Silicon Valley where he sold his company for millions of dollars to LinkedIn. Gai visited the Philippines after globetrotting for his World Startup Report in 2013 that he first presented during the Geeks on a Beach conference in Boracay.
“We helped him setup a small team of volunteers and consultants in Cebu for his WSW project,” said Cebu-based Tina Amper of TechTalks.ph who pointed to the experience as an example of collaboration between experienced entrepreneurs and sharp local talents who are eager to learn and can meet fast-paced, world-class type of business practices.
“We look forward to more of such collaboration,” Amper said, because this allows Filipinos to experience Silicon Valley practices without leaving Cebu. This organic process has become like our own homegrown version of the “Startup Chile” program where foreigners are enticed to visit Chile to set-up businesses.

“Our visitors like Bowei also experience the richness of Filipino culture -- the food, laughter and endless celebrations.”

In Cebu, observed Amper, “the normally hard-charging 24-hour working Gai finds occasions to stop and celebrate birthdays and work in exotic places as the beach and beach-front restaurants.”

This awesome work-play environment comes with the lower cost of building startups and foreigner-friendly culture, something attractive to entrepreneurs from the Silicon Valley and other more mature startup communities in the United States and Europe.

Amper expected more foreign entrepreneurs to experience this especially with Geeks on a Beach 2 will be held in Mactan, Cebu in August 2014.

Globe Business launches women empowerment program in Cebu

Kicks-off Women's Month in the Queen City of the South
WOMEN POWER CONQUERS CEBU: Globe Business fetes female executives in the province for a day of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation

Recognizing the role of female leaders as a driving force in local industries and the economy as a whole, Globe Business recently launched in Cebu an exclusive empowerment program for women in the corporate world.

The enterprise ICT arm of Globe Telecom recently activated its campaign, “You are Wonderful,” in the Queen City of the South geared at appreciating the efforts of female executives from its clientele in establishing a healthy work-life integration amidst their very busy schedules.

“The Philippines continues to be a great place for women in the corporate world. A recent global study revealed that the country is sixth in the world and second in Asia to have women hold senior management roles in enterprises,” pointed out by Globe Business Head of Marketing Charmaine Bautista-Pamintuan, who added that, “since more and more Filipinas are becoming leaders of enterprises, there is also a growing need to empower them so they can strike a balance between career and family life.”

This nationwide program was launched last March 1, in time for the observance of the International Women’s Day.  The first leg was kicked off in Cebu — the center of trade, commerce and industry in Central Visayas and one of the country's most thriving economies. It is also acknowledged as a one of the key cities championing women power in the country. Close to 100 women executives from the province were exclusively invited to the Crimson Resorts and Spa treated to a day of good food, rejuvenation, and self-reflection.

Attendees were treated to pampering sessions of body treatments and meditative activities, followed by a gourmet gastronomic experience of artisan confectioneries from Cebu’s celebrated chocolate boutique.

After the physical rejuvination and a delightful chocolate treat , the lady executives were given an inspirational talk by renowned author, TV host and wellness guru Cory Quirino, who talked about the woman as a “power center.” Elaborating on the 5Ds of empowering the mind, body and spirit: Desire, Determination, Drive, Discipline And Delight, she also encouraged the participants to make a covenant with themselves  to embrace wellness, love more and bring out the “wonderful” in them.

The day was capped off by a sumptuous beachfront dinner, where lucky participants won for themselves hotel overnight stays and buffet vouchers.  During the night cap, Bautista-Pamintuan announced that the gathering is the first in a series of engagements that will be rolled out nationwide to celebrate, inspire and empower female executives as Globe Business will continue to work closely with them in creating a wonderful ICT landscape and businesses in the country.

Globe Business Senior Vice President for Enterprise Group Nikko Acosta, acknowledged the program as “a venue to promote work-life balance for women leaders in enterprises. We want to see a wonderful new culture emerge, one that evokes compassion and balance in the workplace,” adding that Globe Business aims to see more fully-integrated female professionals, especially those who balance multiple roles in their lives.

Globe crackdown vs cable theft leads to filing of 11 cases, arrest of 25 suspects

Posted By: SarahG - 5:44 PM
Police and Globe security personnel inspect cut Globe cables seized from cable theft suspects in Dalaguete, Cebu.
Globe Telecom’s crackdown versus cable theft has led to the filing of 11 separate criminal cases involving 25 individual suspects in the Visayas region in January alone.

The high incidence of cable theft arrest and the subsequent filing of criminal charges against the suspects indicate the company’s intensified efforts in its drive against cable theft, emphasized Ronald Uychutin, Globe Director for Security and Anti-Fraud and Investigation.

“Globe will continue to step up its campaign against cable theft as such illegal activity usually causes disruption of communication services, adversely affecting operations of some of our business clients, and causing inconvenience to our subscribers,” Uychutin said.  The Globe executive said he is confident the cases filed against the suspects will be resolved in favor of the telecommunications company, citing recent court decision involving two separate cases of theft involving Globe cables in Bais City, Negros Oriental. Said cases were resolved in favor of Globe, resulting in the conviction of 5 persons, who were all sentenced to a penalty of 6 years of imprisonment. “A similar resolution of the criminal cases would hopefully deter cable thefts in the future,” added Uychutin.

Those who have been charged with criminal complaints were identified as Rodrigo Celedio, Jr.; Alexander Mamasaranao, Edwin Nulla, Neil Tising; Jojit Magdamit; Mark Jasper Reyes; Jersom Brigoli; Damasino Dayagbel; Nicolas Bantilan, Errol Cabatingan; Lowell Cabatingan; Angelo Vaflor; Joshua Lecciones; Anthony Pagado; Delon Batayola; Alex Carambias; Manny Layese; Allan Camposo; Florentino Canque; Alexander Lato; Jovanie Tumulak; Ivan Gonzales; Edgardo Lumanta; Jandrew Villanueva; Joselito Manican.

Based on police records, Celedio was involved in a cable theft incident that occurred in Maybog in Baybay, Leyte. He was arrested while in the act of cutting Globe wires last January 3 while an accomplice managed to escape.  Mamasaranao, Nulla and Tising were involved in a cable theft incident that took place on January 5 in Barangay Luy-a in Medellin, Cebu. Magdamit and Reyes were arrested on January 2 while they were in the act of cutting Globe wires along Tres De Abril St., Labangon, Cebu.

Last January 9, Brigoli and Dayagbel were arrested as they were caught red-handed in the act of cutting Globe wires in front of the municipal hall building of Dalaguete, Cebu. The two suspects were with 8 other suspects who managed to escape.  A cable-cutting incident in Barangay Cogonin  Bogo City, Cebu the following day, on January 10th, led to the arrest of  Vaflor and Lecciones. Another suspect, identified only as Jun-Jun, managed to escape.

Another cable-cutting incident on January 11th in Poblacion in San Remegio, Cebu led to the arrest of Bantilan, Errol Cabatingan and Lowell Cabatingan while on January 14th,  police arrested Pagado and Batayola who were involved in a cable-cutting incident in Barangay Ticad, Bantayan, Cebu.

Last January 19, barangay tanods chased and accosted Carambias and Layese although three of their companions managed to evade arrest.  Two days later, on January 21st, police arrested Camposo while on January 25th, police arrested Canque, Lato, Tumulak, Gonzales and Lumanta who were all caught in the act of cutting cables. On January 31st, Villanueva and Manican were arrested by police authorities after they caught in possession of cut Globe cable wire insulators.

Globe bags Gold and Bronze Stevies for best use of technology and innovation in customer service

Posted By: SarahG - 6:13 PM
Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom has won Gold and Bronze Stevie Awards for the best use of technology and innovation in customer service, respectively, thereby putting it at par with top companies for customer service globally.

The 8th Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service, one of the most coveted international business awards, gives recognition to the achievements of sales, business developments, customer service, and call/contact center professionals worldwide.

“We are proud to receive these awards, which serve as a testament to Globe Telecom’s commitment to maximize the technology at hand to give subscribers a better customer service experience. Our support channel on Twitter, @talk2GLOBE, has been active since 2009, while Globe Community was launched last year. Both are part of the company’s strategic and innovative customer service endeavor,” said Chris Lipman, Head of Globe Customer Experience Management.

Globe took home the Gold Award for Best Use of Technology in Customer Service – Telecommunications after having successfully utilized various tools that worked together seamlessly to directly improve customer service delivery on Twitter and provide real business benefits.

With tech-savvy customers going to Twitter for information on products and services or to express service experiences, Globe saw an opportunity to use the social networking service to provide end-to-end support for subscriber concerns. Latest statistics show that the Philippines has about 9.5 million Twitter users.

To make the highly popular social networking site more effective, Globe adopted a “social ecosystem” across its entire customer service infrastructure to cut down response time to tweeted queries and to produce more opportunities for honest and meaningful conversations.

Within six months of implementation, Twitter was able to capture more than 135,000 tweets, 298% higher than before.

Globe also won the Bronze Award for Innovation in Customer Service – Telecommunications for new ideas and developments that enabled Globe to meet the needs of its customers more effectively, leading to increased satisfaction and loyalty. One such idea was Globe Community, the first comprehensive online telco community in the Philippines that enables both Globe and non-Globe users to explore, answer and learn about the company’s products and services.

In 2013, Globe was hailed Best in Customer Experience by the World Communication Awards and won the Customer Service Initiative Award at the Asia Communication Awards. It also received an Award of Excellence for Best in Customer Service from the Philippine Quill.
