Globe Bridging Communities and Team Manila Collaborate for the Globe My Fair Share Eco-bag

Posted By: SarahG - 10:48 PM

Hip, snazzy, and fun—this year’s Globe My Fair Share eco-bags make social empowerment and conscious consumerism way cooler with three new designs by Team Manila Graphic Design Studio. The bags are produced under the Globe My Fair Share Program which enables small producers and community beneficiaries with livelihood opportunities, capacity-building, and provision of market access.

This year, Globe Bridging Communities collaborated with Team Manila to come up with three new designs for the My Fair Share eco-bag.  Available in Globe stores nationwide, the eco-bags will be sold for only P120, proceeds of which all go directly to the communities which produce them.

“The My Fair Share program advocates caring for the environment but it also transforms the way Globe gives back—not only by aiding partners and beneficiary communities with capital, funds for capacity and skills development and ICT tools—but also by empowering them with livelihood opportunities,” shares Rob Nazal, Globe Head for Corporate Social Responsibility.

In 2012, the Globe My Fair Share eco-bag enriched the lives of our partner beneficiaries and small community producers and generated over P2 million in revenues. This year, the My Fair Share program tapped more community producers: Pamana Pag-Asa Boni Producers Cooperative in Mandaluyong, Caritas Manila, and sewers from Tahanang Walang Hagdanan in Cainta, Rizal.

The My Fair Share eco-bags are available at the following Globe stores: SM San Fernando, SM Consolacion, SM Megamall, Power Plant Mall, Greenhills Hub, Shangri-la Mall, Podium Hub, SM Fairview, SM Taytay, SM Rosales, CDO Limketkai, Ayala Mall Centrio, SM Cagayan de Oro, SM Batangas, SM Sta. Rosa, SM Naga, Abreeza Mall and SM Davao, SM Mandurriao and SM Delgado.

Globe Telecom 4G LTE-HSPA+ rollout to help support revenue growth

Posted By: SarahG - 10:33 PM

Globe Telecom’s rollout of its 4G LTE (long-term evolution)- HSPA+ service, which caters to the expected growth in mobile data usage, is expected to support revenue growth this year.
“We are rolling out additional fiber optic capacity in order to support our growing 4G LTE-HSPA+ service.  Thus, we can easily cater to more mobile data traffic when demand is there. We expect this endeavor to help generate revenue support this year,” Globe Telecom President and CEO Ernest Cu said, noting that priority areas include Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

According to Cu, revenue increase from mobile data usage will be driven by customers’ growing bandwidth requirement as more and more people are engaged in social networking even when they are on the go.

The company’s rollout of more LTE and HSPA+ sites also bodes well with projections that the number of smartphone users in the country will accelerate over the next several years. Projections indicate smartphone penetration could reach 50% over the next three years, from latest estimate of 18% as of last year, Cu said.

He said the projected upsurge in smartphone penetration will be fuelled by more attractively priced smartphones and changing consumer usage of mobile phones as network coverage becomes more pervasive.

“The growing preference for smartphones will increase the use of mobile internet which, in turn, will help fuel our revenue growth,” Cu said, noting growth in demand for mobile data services, ranging from prepaid daily variants to postpaid unlimited mobile browsing.

Revenues from the company’s mobile business grew 5% quarter-on-quarter growth to a fresh record level of PHP17.331 billion in the fourth quarter, pushing full-year revenues to PHP67.189 billion, a 6% jump from the previous year.

Mobile browsing alone generated revenues of over PHP3.1 billion in 2012, a 55% surge when compared to PHP2.0 billion in 2011 attributed to increased smartphone penetration and the company's continued launch of affordable mobile data plans.

On the other hand, revenues from its broadband business, leapt double digit by 16% to PHP8.721 billion in 2012, compared with PHP7.496 billion in the year-earlier.

Globe Telecom’s 4G LTE-HSPA+ rollout forms part of its $700 million network modernization program launched in November 2011.

Globe Telecom stays committed to corporate sustainability

Posted By: SarahG - 10:33 PM

Recognizing the impact of environmental and social issues concerns on the global economy, Globe Telecom has reiterated its commitment in integrating sustainability in its core operations at the 2013 ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit held recently in Manila.

“Globe Telecom is adding its voice to the clamor for green initiatives and sustainability,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Telecom’s Corporate Communications Head, acknowledging that the telecommunications industry is a huge canvass for various sustainability efforts because of its scale of operations.

The ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit, held recently, provided a venue for top corporations in the ASEAN region on to share their experiences in mainstreaming sustainability into organizational thinking and practice. The forum was aimed at shedding light on how companies could move beyond corporate social responsibility and take into account sustainability in their strategy, finances and operations.

Speaking at the forum, Ms. Crisanto noted that in all operational aspects, from transportation to energy consumption, there are potential risks to the community and its surrounding ecosystem. “Fully recognizing its impact, Globe Telecom has committed to make a difference in this part of the world by taking up the challenges of sustainability,” Ms. Crisanto emphasized.

In fact, the company’s $700 million network modernization, once completed, will enable the company to become the first green mobile network in the country.  In support of its sustainability initiatives, the company also spends vast resources in environment protection and reduction of carbon use, she said.

The company’s sustainability efforts seem to be paying off as the company achieved two consecutive years of strong financial growth despite intense competition.

“Globe Telecom, being a public utility company, can best serve the Filipino nation by ensuring that as we transform the lives of our people with technology and mobile solutions, we also do our share in protecting this viable ecosystem we are in,” Ms. Crisanto said.

“We are a responsible corporate advocate and in so doing, we create a Globe of Good and make our world safe and green for this generation of Filipinos and the next,” she added.

Globe Telecom was also a major sponsor of the event, which featured delegates from the Southeast Asian region from industry, government, regulatory bodies, multilateral agencies and the academe.

Globe Telecom’s 2012 Annual and Sustainability Report was given a B+ rating by TUV Rheiland under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G 3.1. The G 3.1 framework is the most accepted international reporting framework applicable to corporations of any size, type or location. It sets the standard on which organizations shall measure their economic, environmental, and social performance.

On-time bill payments is key to a healthy financial life

Posted By: SarahG - 8:32 PM

Paying bills on time is an important aspect of your financial life. Knowing when your bills are due and making a habit of paying them on time can save you money and reduce your stress.

You might not realize it, but not paying your bills on the due date can have a negative impact on your financial future. Whether it’s your electricity, water, or mobile phone bill, paying your bill days after your due date can cost you additional fees and charges which can range from hundreds to even thousands of pesos.

Paying your bills on time can also reduce your financial stress. You don’t have to worry about those unpaid bills that are stacking up or late payment charges. You can rest easy knowing that your "financial house" is in order.

But how do you make on-time bills payment a habit? It's easier than you think.

First, schedule a bill-payment cut-off time. Make a schedule on your calendar to pay bills on a regular basis. By setting aside a regular time to pay your bills such as during paydays, you'll surely remember to settle your financial obligations on time.
Second, create a location to put your bills and remember your due dates. Think of a convenient place where you can keep your bills so it will be easy for you to access them. You can also organize your bills according to their respective due dates so you are reminded which bills need to be paid next. In order to remember your due date, it is helpful if you keep in mind your billing cycles. These usually fall into two groups—early in the month (ex. 5th of the month) or later in the month (ex. 20th of the month).

Receive e-bills. Enroll in paperless billing if available. For example, Globe Postpaid subscribers can easily sign up to receive e-bills at www.globe.com.ph under My Account. With a paperless billing enrollment, you can view your bills anytime, anywhere online and have the company send you the monthly bill whichever way you prefer. This will ensure that you won’t miss any due date especially if you receive the notification on your mobile phone or tablet.

Pay using your phone. Pay your bills in seconds via your smartphones using the GCASH Mobile App. Just go to the Apple App Store, Google Play, and BlackBerry App World, search for GCASH and download the app for free.  Just launch the GCASH Mobile App, do a one-time registration, and then put funds in your GCASH wallet. Once ready, log in with your Mobile PIN (MPIN), click on the ‘Pay Bill’ link’ and you’re good to go. With the GCASH Mobile App, there’s no need to memorize keywords or access numbers! Using GCASH can also save you from the hassle of long queuing lines in bill payment centers. No more waiting time because all you need is a click of a button and voila, you are cleared of any financial baggage on the spot.

“Paying is almost always a chore. With the GCASH Mobile App and the enjoyable experience it offers, our subscribers will feel good getting payments done using GCASH,” GXI President Paolo Baltao said. “Even for non-smartphone users, they can dial *143# for FREE on their phones and select GCASH to enjoy the same experience,” he added.

Where can you use GCASH to pay your bills? The list includes your Globe Postpaid line, Globe Broadband and Globelines accounts, credit cards and utility bills like Meralco, Davao Light, South Cotabato II Electric Coop, Visayan Electric Co, Manila Water, Maynilad, Subic Water, Laguna Water, and Skycable.

Your payments are processed by your billers in 1-2 banking days. All the transactions done using the GCASH Mobile App as well as your current balance are reflected in the opening screen, or the GCASH Mobile App moneybook which lists down all the GCASH transactions for the month in real-time.

Paying your bills via GCASH is FREE of charge even if you don’t have an airtime load provided that you have enough balance in your GCASH wallet for the transaction to push through. You can easily fund your GCASH wallet by online bank transfer, mobile banking or cashing-in via the Globe Stores and GCASH outlets. GCASH also has a two-factor authentication system that makes your GCASH account safer and absolutely secure. For your electronic reference, notifications are sent to your mobile phone on the status of your transactions.

The app can be downloaded in supported versions of the following operating systems including iPhone iOS version 4.3 or up, Android OS version 2.0 or up, and BlackBerry OS version 5.0 or up.

To know more about how GCASH can ease your bill payment worries away, enjoy free browsing access to www.globe.com.ph/gcash using your mobile phone.

Summer’s not cool without Sweet Spot-new flavors to beat the heat

Posted By: SarahG - 7:56 AM

Scoops of Sweet Spot Artisan Ice cream will surely beat the summer heat as the brand welcomes exciting flavors this summer.

The Davao homegrown artisan ice cream brand welcomes a cool wave of new flavors of its famous crocodile ice cream: Pandan, Strawberry Kiss, Chocoloco, Mangomazing, Durian Dynamite, and Cookie Monster.

 Croc ice cream 101

What makes crocodile ice cream a party in anyone’s palate are crocodile eggs, which comprise 80% yolk! A gallon of crocodile ice cream prides itself to have a dozen of crocodile eggs instead of chicken eggs.
Instead of regular cream, milk is mixed with crocodile egg. Fruit flavors are made more delicious with ripe and fresh picks sourced from the Dizon Farms. The premium ingredients cause ice cream licks to become supreme summer pleasures: a cooling sensation is felt as a scoop touches your lips, flavors then explode as the ridiculously creamy crocodile ice cream greets your mouth.

An iconic treat

Sweet Spot Artisan Ice Cream is the only producer of crocodile ice cream in this side of the world. It started out as an experiment that drew inspiration from the brand’s sister company Crocodile Park. The ice cream was further developed with good command of culinary expertise.
The first batch of crocodile ice cream slowly made it to Sweet Spot freezers in 2011; word of mouth caused the ice cream to gain favorable response from ice cream lovers and adventurous foodies alike.
Today, Sweet Spot Artisan Ice Cream is growing its own cult following with locals and tourists ordering crocodile ice cream by the tub. The brand also packs surprises every season with myriad flavors of regular ice cream.
(Get your Sweet Spot fix this summer! Like Sweet Spot Artisan Ice Cream in Facebook.com/sweetspotartisanicecream. For orders, contact (082) 225-0184; or email sweetspotdvo@gmail.com. Sweet Spot Artisan Ice Cream is located at the Crocodile Park Complex, Maa, Diversion Road.)

True Blends The Strip Tea & Coffee

Posted By: SarahG - 7:49 PM
For over centuries, tea has been established to be a drink that reaps much health benefits.  Its antioxidant property provides a perfect medium for detoxifying one’s body from the toxins concealed in the cocktail of foods being consumed daily and has been associated with a lower risk of any type of cancer.  Its soothing effect can calm the most anxious mind and uplift the gloomiest mood.  And for weight watchers, tea has also been found to help out in weight reduction and even on lowering cholesterol.
But despite the growing popularity of tea as one of the main culprits for longevity among the Asians, many would shy away from the drink because of the bitter, bland taste of tea.  While some would appreciate the distinct taste of tea, most people would prefer refreshing drinks with a more umami and sweet taste to quench their thirst.
Because of the mismatch between the health wonders and the unpleasant taste of tea, many innovations have been created, and one of them is the creation of the designer tea-based drinks widely available today. Milk teas are tea-based drinks with added milk and customized flavourings to mask the bitter taste of tea and to add a stronger umami taste into the blend.  Fruit teas are fruit-flavoured tea drinks that add sweet, citrus flavours into the bitterness of tea, creating a more refreshing aftertaste into the drink.

Over the years, a lot of milk tea joints have opened to cater to the different taste preferences of Filipinos.  But because preference can vary from one person to another, one tea blend may work for some and but not for everyone.  Taking this into consideration,True Blends The Strip Branch decided to embark on a milk tea store that allows customers to modify their tea drinks to their own liking.  Although the store offers the usual sugar and ice level modifications, the store goes an extra mile with their teas served with a detachable lid cover so that customers who found their choice of sugar level to be unsatisfying can get their drinks corrected.

But that isn’t all that True Blends The Strip Branch offers.  With the store’s reasonable pricing, milk tea lovers can get their daily dose of milk tea for as low as 50 php with a free pearl add-on and a complimentary sandwich for as low as 45php.  Even the store’s known bestsellers, the cheese cloud series can be availed for less 100php.  Because of the affordable pricing, the store allows its customers a regular refuge from the summer heat and helps its consumers acquire the health benefits of tea.
Not a tea-drinker?  True Blends The Strip Branch also offers non-tea beverages such as its yakult series consisting of yakult-blended drinks and Italian sodas.  And like any other café, coffee and hot chocolate drinks are also available for customers to enjoy.  Feeling hungry?  Customers don’t have to worry about an empty stomach as the store also serves sausages with many sauces to choose from and a variety of sandwiches from the ordinary TLC (tomatoes, lettuce, cheese) sandwich to the unique peanut butter-banana  sandwich.
As a newly opened milk tea store, True Blends The Strip Branch is very active in its Facebook fanpage as it seeks to encourage people to enjoy the goodness of tea.  By liking the fanpage, the store provides its fans information about their current and future promos and perks to keep the milk tea love on the high.  And as a celebration for their soft opening last April 6, 2013, the store is offering all its customers a FREE DRINK UPGRADE until April 13, 2013, providing a perfect opportunity for first-time customers to try True Blend’s signature drinks.
True Blends The Strip Branch is located along Ortigas Ave., Pasig City right beside The Medical City to cater to both commuters and passers-by as well as to the regular employees within the area.  It is the perfect venue for people who are in need of a refreshing break from walking in the burning summer heat.

Posted By: SarahG - 2:28 AM

Summer has officially started. Have you made your vacation plans yet? Here’s an important tip: you’ve waited for this trip for a pretty long time, and planning can put you on track to your dream summer getaway with your barkada. The trick to a perfect plan? DIY, or do it yourself, because it is only you, along with travel buddies, who know exactly what you want and what will make this season worthwhile.

While short, unplanned trips can be fun, who wants the headaches of mismatched schedules of your friends, seeing “No Vacancy” signs, and being unfamiliar with the locale? But how can you make sure that planning for the trip of a lifetime doesn’t become a headache too?

The answer is in your hands – rather your fingertips. Your mobile phone, that essential tool for connecting with friends, relatives, classmates and orgmates, as well as with your barkada whom you haven’t seen for ages, can be put to better use, thanks to another revolutionary service from innovation leader Globe Telecom.

Plan the perfect summer getaway and do it yourself with Globe Prepaid GoSakto, the world’s first-ever do-it-yourself prepaid promo. GoSakto is the latest offering from Globe Prepaid which empowers prepaid users to create their own prepaid promo from scratch, moving away from pre-made or canned promos that limit users from enjoying and maximizing their prepaid promo.

Another game-changing service from Globe, GoSakto lets prepaid customers customize their own prepaid promo based on their needs, budget, and lifestyle. Through calling, you get the responses pronto! For this, you will need calls to Globe/TM since most if not all your friends are on the Globe network. One hundred (100) minutes of Globe/TM calls should be enough to dial your friends in.

·         Once you have the date of your summer getaway, it’s time to look for a nice and cozy place to stay. It’s summertime so expect hotels and resorts to be full almost everyday, so make sure you reserve in advance to score a great deal. It’s also nice to ask other friends for recommendations. To do this, you will need text services to all networks. Since you have a lot of coordination to do, get 250 text messages to all networks so you can keep on texting without having to worry about sending a text to a non-Globe number.

·         So you’ve sealed the venue and date of your trip and are counting the days before the big day. And just like any regular adventurer, you scout whether you’ve made the right choice when it comes to your destination. Use your mobile phone to surf the ‘Net for reviews, blogs, and forum discussions. Download a complete music playlist which can come in handy during the long roadtrip. To do this, get yourself a surfing service for an instant on-the-go internet connection. Your 20MB of data for mobile surfing should be enough to explore the World Wide Web at the comfort of your mobile phone.

·         You’ve finally completed your summer plans and your call-text-surf combo to help you with it. Now it’s time to decide how long your Globe Prepaid GoSakto promo will be. Make it worth your while and money, so choose the 7-day promo variant to best suit your needs and budget. It’s an affordable P101 good for 7 days, or a little over P14 per day. Globe debunks rival’s claim of highest growth in postpaid

Posted By: SarahG - 2:09 AM

Globe maintains lead in postpaid subscriber base and revenue shares

Debunking its rival’s claim that its postpaid subscriber base posted the highest growth in the industry, Globe Telecom revealed that it gained the most number of postpaid subscribers in 2012 not by basis of percentage growth but by actual base growth in net subscriber additions.

According to its official disclosures, Globe acquired 279,762 new postpaid customers, trumping Smart which added 132,943 subscribers ending 2012. Sun, on the other hand, gained 218,352.

“Percentage growth does not necessarily translate to the highest growth in the industry, especially if you’re coming from a relatively lower base, thus giving the perception that your growth is bigger than the rest. Real growth looks at actual subscriber additions over a specific period of time,” Globe Head of Postpaid Martha Sazon said.

On a quarter-on-quarter level, Globe still claimed the top spot with 71,715 new subscribers in 4Q 2012, a 14% increase from the previous quarter. Smart obtained 24,607 customers during the same period while Sun added 46,495.

Ending 2012, Globe postpaid subscriber share stood at 43.5%, Sun at 39.4%, while Smart gets the remaining 17.1%.

In the area of postpaid service revenues, Globe clearly had the edge over its competitors, with revenues of P22.8 billion ending 2012, a hefty 24% increase from previous year’s P18.5 billion, translating to a 56.2% postpaid revenue share. On the other hand, combined revenues of its two competitors were at P17 billion with a 43.8% combined revenue share.

With this phenomenal growth in postpaid subscriber base and service revenues, Globe easily secures the spot of being the biggest and most consistently-growing postpaid brand in the country.

Early this year, Globe scored exclusive deals with two of the world’s biggest smartphone brands Samsung and CloudFone, getting first dibs on the Samsung Galaxy SIII mini and the CloudFone tablet and phone bundle. Both devices are offered with more plan options, giving subscribers more flexibility and the true freedom to enjoy their calls, texts, and mobile internet.

Just last March, with its strong partnership with BlackBerry, Globe gained exclusivity to carry the new BlackBerry Z10 LTE under its suite of fully-customizable and unlimited surfing plans that provide subscribers with unlimited LTE surfing with mobile internet speeds of up to 42 Mbps, a faster browsing experience, and more seamless access with the new BlackBerry World.

The postpaid leader is poised to sustain growth momentum in 2013 with the launch of the new and best-ever My Super Plan coming this April.
