Globe-SJC interconnection ushers high-point
in Asian telecommunications: President Benigno S. Aquino and Globe Telecom Chairman of the Board Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala lead in the ceremonial inauguration of the Globe-South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) interconnection launch. As the fifth major investment in submarine cable systems of Globe, the trans-Asian facility is now fully operational with available data traffic, streaming an initial design capacity of 28 terabits per second. This groundbreaking technological development in East Asia will enable unmatched telecommunications services by Globe through its link-up with SJC, providing superior interconnectivity within the Philippines and its Asian neighbors. Spanning almost 9,000 kilometers, the US$400 million submarine cable has one of the highest capacities in the world, addressing bandwidth-intensive applications such as internet TV, online games and enterprise data exchange. Witnessing the momentous occasion in the region’s telecommunications industry with Pres. Aquino and Zobel de Ayala is Globe SVP and Head of Enterprise Group Nikko Acosta, Globe SVP and Head of International Business Markets Rizza Maneigo-Eala, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo, Globe Head of International and Business Markets Gil Genio, KDDI President Yukiya Oda, Singtel VP for Carrier Services International Business Unit and SJC Consortium Management Committee Head Ooi Seng Keat and Brunei International Gateway Sendirian Berhad Managing Director Song Dai.
