Sustaining its nation-building efforts
under its Project Wonderful program, Globe Telecom hosted a visit for U.S.
actor Gabriel Macht of the hit TV series SUITS
to the Philippines to help bring to life its advocacy of rebuilding sustainable
livelihood programs for typhoon Haiyan-affected families and communities.
Macht, best known for his role as
Harvey Specter in the U.S. TV drama, visited Ormoc, Leyte, one of the most
impacted areas in Central Philippines to fulfill the rebuilding livelihood
pillar of Project Wonderful. “Witnessing the devastation of typhoon Haiyan, I
felt compelled to raise awareness and financial aid to help thousands of people
still struggling to get back on their feet. There is so much work still to do.
I'm excited to be a part of rebuilding and I'm hoping that so many more will
join the effort,” Macht shared.
Present to welcome Macht was Ormoc Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez who also showed the international
celebrity around Ormoc. And his visit to the province was made more meaningful
as he led the ceremonial rebuilding and reconstruction of sari-sari stores
upon the endorsement of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)
under its Sustainable Livelihood Program.
As beneficiaries,
the stores will serve as retail distribution channels of Globe that will
operate a prepaid load business powered by Globe AutoloadMax (AMAX), an electronic reloading
service that allows retailers to automatically top-up prepaid credits to a
Globe or TM cellphone.
“We are very honored to
host Gabriel Macht's meaningful and cause-worthy visit to the Philippines. We
are thankful for Gabriel's participation in Project Wonderful, as he will
definitely help create global awareness which will in turn generate more help
to benefit the affected families get back on their feet," said Globe Vice
President for Prepaid Business Issa Cabreira.
Macht, Congresswoman Gomez and Cabreira were also joined
by Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto and
some friends from the media who all got a chance to personally have a hand in
transforming the stores by repairing it and putting up
some posters to signal its official opening for business.
Soon, more stores
in the community will receive the same livelihood package from the telco
company.
Project Wonderful, Globe Telecom’s rehabilitation initiative is
part of a unified platform for the company’s brand, culture, and
nation-building efforts.
